Hyperion Planning Is a budgeting and forecasting application that drives collaborative, event based planning process throughout the organization for a wide range of financial and operational needs.

Hyperion Planning Version 4 is a 3-Tier architecture. The client tier consists of planning desktop version, planning web client version.
The desktop client will be used by an administrator to set up a planning application and the request will be handled by a middle tier and creates the tables in RDBMS server. Now using the desktop client administrator will go a head and refresh the application, then application server will push all RDBMS table entries into Essbase server and generate an outline with “7” (seven) standard dimensions for multi currency application.
The client tier also consists of a web based client which will be used by an administrator to add dimensions and members apart from the “7”(seven) standard dimensions we can add “13”(Thirteen) more user defined custom dimensions. The web client can also be accessed by end users to enter the budget data into planning application. The backend (RDBMS+ESSBASE) is integrated with hyperion reporting tools to generate reports out of planning application.
The whole architecture will build on top of the foundation services which consists of shared services (Centralized User Management console).
The seven standard dimensions are
§ Accounts
§ Entity
§ Year
§ Period
§ Scenario
§ Version
§ Currency
Scenario – – > Grouping of related data togethers
HSP_Rates dimension will hold the exchange rate details
Architecture version 9.3.1/1.1.1.1.3
Data Forms in Hyperion Planning
Call Text in Data Forms:-
This feature enables that the end users to store the comments at the cell level in Data forms. Open your Data forms then select any valid cell and then click on edit, then click on cell text, which will popup a small window with a text box on POV, write any comment in there and click on submit. Then there will be a small icon appeared in the corner of the cell; which indicates there is a cell text in the background of cell.
Note:- The cell text and supporting details will be stored at RDBMS level.
Supporting Details for a Data form
Supporting Details enables the end user to enter all the supporting calculations before deriving the final budgeting figure.
Supporting Details are useful to justify the budget members that we have entered in past.
Steps:-
§ Open the Data form, select the cell where you want to enter the supporting Details then Double click, it will pop up a window, there you can write some Measures with appropriate Mathematical operators and the amounts. To add more entries in this window click on Add child or Sibling. Once you are done, click on save which will save the final number on Essbase server. The background of cell appears in blue which indicates there is a supporting detail in the background.
Triangular Currency
It acts as a middle currency when we convert the local currency in to reporting currency.
For Example:- If your application has INR and GBP as local currencies and USD as the Reporting Currency. If you make GBP as a Triangular Currency for INR then if any body enters the budget data using INR it will first convert into equivalent GBP and then Reporting Currency(USD)
Steps:-
§ Open the planning applications as an Administrator.
§ Click on Dimensions, Click on Currency Dimension
§ Select local currency ( for example – INR), click on Edit, then click on Drop down list for Triangular currency and select another local currency code (GBP) according to your requirement.
§ Click on Save
§ Now open the Exchange Rate Table, there it will allow you to enter the Exchange rate data to convert INR into GBP and then GBP into USD
§ Click on Save, Click on Close
§ Refresh your planning database
